8+ Months (December 3rd)

Still trying to figure out what makes the back of my ankle where the achilles attaches hurt so much.  Pressing on it does cause a decent amount of pain but it is nothing compared to how it feels trying to walk after.  I applied pressure to different parts of the area with my finger for about 3 minutes (total).  Within an hour, I could barely walk.

Here are some pics of how my ankle and calf look 8 months after the surgery.  In the pictures of my calf, I was flexing to show the indent.  In the pic of my ankle with the arrow, I'm pointing out where something in my ankle is protruding.  It is most obvious when I'm pointing my foot down.

  1. Hi, Im 27 years old and Im a woman... I just had a calcaneal ostotomy last thursday, Im in day 2 and is very painful.. The burn pain comes and goes, when my leg is not elevated it hurts a lot and the painkillers are not very helpul. I have a muscular dysrophy and because of that my calcaneal bone is no streight and I step on with the side of my feet. Beacuse of this and my muscular dystrophy I fall very often so the doc recommended this cirgury so I can step on streight and fell less. Also beacause of my condition I have to stay in bed all the time, I cant even go to the washroom, my left leg is too week to limp, so I need help for everything, its pretty frustrating. I had to move to my parents house s they can take care of me. Next tuesday I have my first healing and the doc said that I cant walk for 2 months approx. and that I can go back to work after 1 month, but that deppends on the recovery. I dont think I will be able to do that because of my dystrophy, even with the crutches is gonna be hard for me to limp with the other feet. Thank you very much for your blog, have been very helpful. I hope you get better soon and have a merry xmas XD

  2. Christhyl,

I'm sorry to hear you are having a difficult time. This surgery is very challenging. It sounds like your situation definitely warranted the procedure. I hope you begin to feel better soon and have a wonderful holiday season.

  3. Hi James,

just commented on your first and last post, scanning through. These pictures are very very interesting, thank you. I've had no idea what to expect in terms of how things would look or if there'd be a calf indent, etc. I can see that lump in your ankle you refer to.

I don't mind how the scars will look on my feet, but I do care about how my calves will look afterwards.

Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to share your experience.

    Best wishes,

K (just commented on your first and last post)

  4. I had that exact same bump in the scar where my stitch was and during pt, I pointed it out and my therapist squeezed then scraped it with his nail and pulled it out w a tweezer then cleaned it with alcohol! He said it's pretty common that a stitch breaks off and eventually works it's way to the surface like that.
